Don’t worry about tech stacks

The myth of constant change

In the software industry questions like “language to learn in 2024” or “Which stack do you learn this year?” are extremely common. I think we are doing it all wrong. I am using Ruby on Rails now professionally since over 15 years. While I learned Rust, Go, Elixir, Clojure, Elm, and many more in the meantime I used close to non of them for my professional work. Like many others, I like learning new things, but we should really not pressure ourselves and the entire FOMO about tech stacks is made up nonsense. So I really wonder if we are creating all this pressure to learn the latest stack for no reason. There is no risk to miss out. If there is any new technology that will revolutionize our industry it also has to last several years, so we have more than enough time to learn it without always being an early adopter.

There is no risk to miss out on anything relevant. Don't stress to learn all the latest tools. Learn what you want to learn.
